Listed below are Match day duties (Juniors)
Linesman duty on match day
For teams U12 and up only.
The linesman is also known as the assistant referee.
If you have been chosen as your team’s linesman for the day, this is what you need to do.
When the referee enters your field of play before the kickoff go up to him/her and make yourself known as your teams linesman.
He/she will tell you what side of the ground they want you on and will give you a flag.
The ref will let you know what they expect of you.
Go to the side indicated (then swap in the second half) and wait for kickoff.
You will more than likely be expected to put your flag up when the ball has gone out; with you flag indicate which team gets the throw in; put your flag up if you think there has been an off side infringement (click here for easy off side rules); sometimes the ref will wave away the offside and continue play if they think it appropriate.
Once play has started you must keep yourself in line with the second last defender on the field (the goal keeper being the last defender), so you need to run up and down quite a bit following that line.
Also don’t go past the half way mark, which is your boundary.
Really being the linesman for the day is a great way to get some outdoor exercise.
Enjoy the game!
Marshall Duties on Match Day
For teams U12 and up only.
The FFV referee of each game requires an escort to and from his/her game. It’s in the FFV rules and not something that we can avoid.
In some cases a referee will not attend his/her game without the marshall escort, so please take this duty seriously.
The marshall duty is very simple.
If you have been rostered as a marshall for your child’s game then go to your team manager 30 min before kickoff and ask for a fluro marshall’s vest.
Then go to the ref’s room, and let the relevant referee know that you are their marshall for the day.
-
Be mindful where the First Aid facility and stretcher are located.
-
Spectators should be guided / encouraged to stand behind the ‘parent line’ or within the allocated viewing area with emphasis away from the Goal areas
-
Ensure only registered Coaches / Managers / Substitutions whose names appear on the team sheet have taken up position within the Technical areas provided near half way
-
Report misconduct - including disputes, foul and abusive language by any persons at the ground.
He/she will then give you instructions as to what they want you to do.
But more than likely wait for the ref, walk him/her to the ground in time for kickoff, walk them back to the rooms at half time, then back to the ground for the second half and finally back to their rooms at the end of the game.
Its that simple!
